My great-great grandfather was John LESLIE. His biography is on pg 608 of the 1880 Dodge County History. I have a full size charcoal sketch which I believe to be him. I am looking for any photos, tintypes etc that would help me to make a positive ID. He was the Dodge County Sheriff in 1873 and In 1884 he was elected to represent Dodge County in the lower house of the State Legislature. I am hopeful that because he held these offices his photo might exist somewhere.

Looking for any and all information regarding John MULVEY, Mary BURKE MULVEY, Patrick BURKE and Thomas BURKE. Mary BURKE and her brothers, Patrick and Thomas, first settled in or around Horicon about 1860. Patrick BURKE was possibly a school teacher. He married Mary Jane O’BRIEN, although not sure if marriage took place in Dodge County. John MULVEY was a farmer, unsure of when he came to Dodge County. Mary BURKE married John MULVEY in Horicon about 1862. They had three daughters while in Dodge County. The children were Mary MULVEY b.c. 1863, Catherine MULVEY b.c. 1864, and Bridget MULVEY b.c. 1866. The BURKE and MULVEY families left Dodge County and moved to Rice County, Minnesota about 1867. Thanks in advance.

GRUTZMACHER/GRUETZMACHER/GRITZMACHER - MITTELSTADT: I am trying to clearly connect the Gruetzmacher and Mittelstadt families. They both came to Jefferson County from Kreis Pyritz, Pommern, in the mid 1850's. I have a reference found in a German churchbook to a Sophie Mittelstadt marrying Wilhelm Grutzmacher "master locksmith of Lubtow", and also the following note from the Watertown Gazette of 24 Jun 1901: Fred Middlestadt has lived in Maynard, Iowa for 25 years. Formerly of Farmington, he is visiting his sister, Mrs. Sophia Gruetzmacher. I have reason to believe that this Sophie Mittelstadt was born Dorothea Sophia Mittelstadt on May 20, 1824, in Kollin, Kreis Pyritz, a daughter of Christian Friedrich and Dorothea Sophia (Laue) Mittelstadt. This daughter had a brother Friedrich Wilhelm who married Marie Ckel, the couple living for a time in Jeffeerson County, members of the Concord Methodist Church - they, I believe, moved to Iowa with another brother, Edward J. aka Heinrich Julius Edward Mittelstadt and his wife Rachel Sell. Any information concerning the early Jefferson County Gruetzmachers would be appraciated.

CRAIG, Alexander (1822-1853) CRAIG, Catherine (1850-1923) BAKER, Joseph Freeborn (1844-c1870) LEE, Robert (1844-1929)

Alexander CRAIG, possibly the son of Sarah CRAIG died in 1852-53, probably in Ozaukee Co., Wis. However, he had sold his land there in 1850 to his brother-in-law. There is a land patent granted to an Alexander J. CRAIG filed 3 Mar 1850 for the 40 acres in the SE qtr of the NW qtr of Section 9, Township 5 North, Range 16 East. This might be the same CRAIG, in which case there might be some record of his death and/or that of Sarah CRAIG.

Seeking any info on the death of Joseph Freeborn BAKER, a Civil War vet, who married Catherine CRAIG on 29 Sep 1867 at Rosendale in Fond du Lac Co. By 1870, Catherine Craig BAKER had remarried to Robert LEE at Waupun, Wis.. It is possible the families lived in or near Waupun in Dodge Co. and that Joseph Freeborn BAKER died there. He is said to be buried at Rosendale, but there is no record of it. Conceivably, she was in Waupun because BAKER was in the state penitentiary. BAKER may have died of tuberculosis, in which case there could be an infirmary record if any exist.

Robert LEE, a Civil War vet, married Catherine CRAIG BAKER sometime 1867-1870 at Waupun, Wis. officiated by "Elder" WHITING. I'm seeking a marriage record. The denomination and name and address of the present survivor church would be useful. Robert LEE joined the 2nd Wis. Cav. at Ripon in Fond du Lac Co., but his family is unknown. He might have been from Dodge or Jefferson Co., but went to Ripon in order to join a cavalry unit. By 1880, he was living in Fond du Lac.

SELL and WESTON families

Looking for info on the SELL family (Wilhelm, Wilhelmina, and children Ernestina and Wilhelm). They came over from Prussia in 1869 according to Wilhelm's papers of intent (filed 1881 - have copy). Ernestina married in Dodge County in 1878, to Gardner WESTON have marriage record, but can find no record of her death ca. 1886. Wilhelm jr. married in Lutheran church in Lebanon, May 8, 1892.

Also WESTON family, George/Jos. and Cynthia (Gardner's parents). Found a Cyntha WESTON on 1850 census index in Watertown. Have not seen original entry. Mine was Cynthia LORIS, born Germany, apparently. George/Jos. was born in England. Gardner was supposedly born in Theresa Feb. 22, 1856 but can find no record as court house burned.

Help! I'm stuck! Not sure where else to look!

I am looking for the LUTZKE and BOECK familes, who lived in the Alderley area of Dodge County. Johann Frederick August Lutzke (known as Fred) and wife Anna Marie Julie Boeck lived there from at least 1888 to 1895. Reference my query of 11/9/99, I have come across some further information. On Anna LEHMANN's death certificate her fathers name is listed as Henry Schultz. I have also come across an old family photo from the turn of the century taken at a studio in Sun Prairie, WI. Unfortunately I don't know if it is the Lehmann or Schultz family as no one is named.

Martin STAPLETON, born 1830 in Ireland, emigrated to Watertown, Jefferson Co. in late 1840's, is supposed to have spent about 2 years in CA, after which he returned to WI and became a merchant. On Jan. 20, 1850 in Watertown, he married Catherine JOHNSON, born in Ireland April 1, 1832, daughter of James and Mary Flynn JOHNSON. They lived in Fox Lake, Dodge Co., where he appears on the 1855 territorial census and the 1860 Federal census. A James STAPLETON is listed in Fox Lake whom we think may be a brother, and a William STAPLETON is also listed there. Since Martin and Catherine's first son is Louis William, we wonder if this William may be Martin's father. Louis and his brother Edward attended the university and became merchants and drugstore owners in Chippewa Falls, WI. Martin and Catherine lived in Fox Lake for many years before retiring and moving to Denver to be near their daughter. Both died there. Any information on Martin's parents and birthplace would be most welcome.
