Subject: Daniel and George Case

I was a member of your society a couple of years ago researching the Cases in Hebron Wisconsin.  I found Daniel Case his Wife Velina, Children George S. and Hiram W. Case.

I am from the line of George S. Case and found George S. living in Hebron 1880 living with wife Dora and children Etta Case George Case and two other brothers that died at a young age. I found that in may 1890 Dora Case gave birth to a girl and then the Dora (the mother) died. The child then was named Dora. When George S. Case remarried a Mary Jane Rose they moved to South Dakota.  The Child Dora Case was then living with her older Sister Etta (now Married) to a Chester Crandall. I understand Etta's Uncle, William R. Case was still living in Hebron and the home of Daniel W. Case and Velina where still in or near Hebron Wisconsin.

William R. Case helped name Hebron, WI.  I am trying to find any land information on Daniel Case's land and William R. Case's land, the addresses and if any living descendants are still in the area. I recently received and scanned into my computer pictures of homes and people supposedly from Hebron, WI.  Can you help me contact someone on the Internet in Hebron Wisconsin that can help me get photos of the cemetery and property that used to be Daniel Case's and William Case's.  Also if they could help to find any living relatives. I have three letters Hiram Case wrote to his brother George, written in 1913 right before George died. I also have photos of William Rose and his wife and some of his children taken in Fort Atkinson, WI.

I cannot get up to Wisconsin to do the research and take pictures but hoped I could share some pictures and history that I found out about from some distant relatives in Alabama that have obituaries from WI.

Thank You!

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Dennis Case

Feel free to forward my email address to anyone in Hebron WI who can help me.

Subject: Looking for ANY information on William and Margaret Rogers and family.

William was born approximately 1803, possibly in New York.  He married Margaret Elmendorf who was born about 1827 in Erie Co., NY, and died Jan. 1860 in Hebron, Jefferson Co., WI.

William died somewhere around what we believe to be 1865-1870, in Jefferson county, likely near Hebron.

They had 4 children all born in Jefferson County.  They were John William (born 1852 and married Sidney Madvina Coleman), Janet (born 1853 and married Spencer Palmer), Edgar or Edward (born 1858), and Ella Annette (born 1856 and married James Chapman).

John purchased a 40 acre parcel on August 1st , 1846 on a cash sale.  It was in Section 25, Township 6 North, Range 15 East, in Hebron Township.  This was likely at or around the time he and Margaret moved from NY to WI.

That is all we know.

Any further information you have would be greatly appreciated, especially regarding William’s parents.

Thank you very much.

Hi!     We have been researching our family and found that there was a "Schack Grocery" in Watertown sometime in the 20's or 30's which they owned. Do you have a facility where someone could do research to see if there is anything related to our family in your holdings and if so, where is it and what are the hours? Thanks so much for the help!

Subject: Emil Zaske - Watertown

Looking for information on Emil Zaske (possibly spelled Zaeske, Seske, or Zeske) who is listed in the 1900 census (spelled Zaske) as residing in Watertown with his wife and several children. According to the 1900 census he arrived in this country sometime prior to 1880 with his future wife arriving three years later. His occupation was listed as "harness maker."

It is possible that Emil Zaske is related to my g-grandfather, John Zaeske, who arrived in Oconomowoc WI in April of 1891. John and his wife, daughter and father, Ernst Zaeske, came from near Opole, Silesia, which at that time was a part of Prussia (Germany). This area is presently a part of Poland.

I am planning on being at the Society to use the library on September fourteenth and any information that could put me "on the right track" quickly would be appreciated. I am a current member of DJCGS.

I just received a message forwarded from my third cousin once removed (we THINK), Dolores Finney.  I sent in my membership application today, so that I could start right in.  I am seeking information on my great-grandparents, Frederich Misegades and Christiana Schoenfisch.  I believe Frederich was the owner of the Misegades Wagon Shop.  Also interested in sorting out the relationship between William (m. Augusta), Diederich (m. Augusta --that must have been a popular name, then!), and Henry (m. Anna Shaffer).

Whatever information you can send me will be incorporated into my pedigree, and I promise to deliver the entire contents to you when I've got it sorted out.  Thank you in advance for any information you can give me.

Subject: Gower Saloon

My name is Harold Kenneth Gower, born in Rock County WS Jan 28, 1931 and now living in Cruger MS after serving 20+ years in USAF

My greatgrandfather William H Gower operated a saloon and billiard parlor in Watertown around the turn of the 20th century.  He was born 1853, burried in Janesville 1916.  I discovered a calling card giving his name as owner of the saloon and billiard parlor, but no address (other than Watertown)  or date indication.  Can you assist me in locating a source to find out more about this.

His son, my grandfather William Delbert Gower lived in Janesville and owned several taverns: The Green Onion, Hill Top Tavern, and River Street Tavern.  It appears that William H Gower gave up farming in LaPrairie Township and entered into the saloon business, beginning a family tradition (my father Harold N Gower and uncle Delbert William Gower both operated taverns).

Only in recent years have I found interest in genealogy and am now floundering through historical sources.  Any assistance will be appreciated.

Subject: Johann Christian PERTZSCH

My Name is Michael PERTZSCH and I might be an Anchestor of Johann Christian PERTZSCH who immigrated in 1862 from Germany over Quebec/Canada to La Crosse/La Crosse County, WI where they had the birth of Walter Christian PERTZSCH in 1867, who is the Father of Irving PERTZSCH, who was for a long time the elected major of Onalaska/ La Crosse County, WI.

It is told, that Johann Christian and his wife Caroline Wilhelmine and their 3 daughters Mathilda, Anna and Emma moved from Quebec (where Emma shall be born in 1862) to Watertown, where they settled first, when they entered the United States, and where Johann Christian PERTZSCH worked as a (Black)smith for a couple of years.

So my question to you is, are there maybe any documents, records or any thing else available in any archives, record-centers or any where else from which I could get a copy? Maybe the naturalization-record, some immigration-records, working-documents, files with all smith's, union-documents (if there was a union for smith's), inhabitants-list, or records where some one have lived, settled or had possession, or maybe census-records.

I've got records where he is born but I have no documents how he came to America, from where he left Germany or documents of any kind about his marriage (because I don't know the correct place where he lived in Germany before he left, and so on.

I would be very thankful for any help in any kind

Subject: David Lentz or Lenz

Our family stories have David Lentz/Lenz arriving in Watertown, WI in 1863 to 1865 from Germany - maybe as early as 1861. One son, William Sr and family moved to Freeborn County, MN in 1868.

We do not know if David died in Watertown, and if there were other children who stayed there.

The 1880 U.S. Census lists a Christina Kroger (Kruger) living with William Lenz in Freeborn Co., MN. It lists her as mother or grandmother.

We wonder if David died in Watertown, or sooner, and his wife, Christina, remarried to Kruger/Kroger, and after his death, before 1880, came to live with her son, in MN.

That is not much to go on. Sorry.

Subject: August Klug family

Hi--  I am from Iowa.  My great-great grandparents immigrated to the U.S. in 1863 and settled in Rome, WI., Jefferson County.  Their names are August and Louise (Krause) Klug.  They had 3 daughters and 2 sons.  The one son, August Frederick Charles Klug was my great grandfather.  I have almost of the history from my grandmother.  I do have Louise Klug's obituary.

What I am looking for all exact dates on August.  My grandmother had a scrapbook with all kinds of articles on family members including obits.  All I have from Louise's obit is that August wa born in 1834, Pommerania, Germany.  They were married in 1855 and that he passed away in 1865 just two years after they got to the U.S. leaving her with the small children to care for.  In 1867, she remarried and moved to Sumner, Bremer Co., Iowa.  Also, they had a son named Fredinand Klug born in Sept., 1859, in Schoenbeck, Germany and he died in Feb., 1906  Walworth Co., WI. and is buried in Whitewater, WI.  Would like some information on this family, too.

Is it possible for someone to look some of this up for me or would it be better if I travel to Helenville and Whitewater, myself?  I live in Bremer Co., Iowa not too far from where they all lived and have exhausted my search here.  They were Lutherans.  I guess I would start with St. Peter's in Helenville and go from there.  Thanks for the help or advice.

My family owns property in Concord.  It is at the corner of Willow Glen Road and County Road F.  (Mules' Corner?)  My husband and I currently live in Florida, but we will be moving back to the area next summer.  We are interested in the history of the property, the house was once part of the Underground Railroad, a fact that fascinated me even when I was very young, and we would like to build a replica of the house.  (It burned in a fire around 1984 or so.)  We would like to see photos of the house and/or property that would help us recreate it.  Do you have any information regarding this property or can you point us in the direction of someone who does?  All I know is what I have explained, and it doesn't seem to be enough to get anywhere.  Any help you can offer would be most appreciated, and even if you can't, thank you for your time!
