Subject: Michael Fuchs

I'm looking for information on my g-g-g grandfather, Michael Fuchs. He died in Jefferson City (**) on 26 Nov 1871. I have not been able to find where he was laid to rest or any mention of his death in a local paper.  I have a copy of a Will that he signed on 17 Nov 1871 which leads me to believe he knew he was going to die. He would have been about 50 years old in 1871. Any leads or ideas are very welcome!

(**)The probate record of Michael Fuchs Will stated Michael died in the "Village of Jefferson". I am making the assumption it's present day City of Jefferson

Subject: Question and Request: GASSER/GESER

Watertown Historical Society

Watertown / Jefferson County / Wisconsin

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am looking for a member of my family: Benedict Geser (born 1819 in southern Germany, former kingdom of wuerttemberg) emigrated between 1851 an 1854 (assumably) into the U.S.  If you spell the surname Geser in English as it is pronounce in German, the result would be GASSER.

By doing some internet research I found a B. Gasser 1885 living in Watertown,WI who was listed as veteran of the Company H, 48th Infantry Regiment (Civil War 1861-64)

Till 1863 there is a Benedict GESER (also written as GEESER) to find in Milwaukee as working and living and assumably running a german boarding house named Kossuth House at East Water Street.

Do you have any holdings who can deliver more datas about this person and do you see a chance to find somethin about him? Please tell me also your fees or costs for doing a research on behalf on my request.

Any help and assist would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings from Germany

Rudolf Geser   (Chemnitz/Saxony)

Subject: Rodney Williams

Dear genealogists,

Our group, the Wisconsin Aviation Hall of Fame, is seeking biographical information about an WW I pilot named Rodney Williams. He was a Waukesha native who flew in France, came home and continued to fly in Waukesha until approx WWII. Then he moved to Jefferson County where I presume he farmed since he was head of the county Dairy Herd Improvement Assoc for 17 years.  He died in 1975, I presume in Jefferson cty. We plan to induct Williams into our WI Aviation Hall of Fame and would like to contact family members. Can you help us find them?  If nothing else, an obituary would help. Thanks for your help and check our website at www.aviationhalloffamewisconsin.com .

I don't know if you can help me with this but . . . in on the the cemeteries i visit, there are low gravestones that are partially covered with grass. Is it better for the grass to be left on the stone ( it's just like a mat of grass, and not dirt) thus protecting it from the elements, but leaving it almost hidden? Or is it better to remove the grass, letting it be seen, but exposing it to the elements?

Thanks for any help, John Uhlman

Did Beaver Dam, Dodge County have a census taken in 1865 and 1875?  I am looking for my Great Grandfather (James Peter Wanamaker) who lived there between 1855 and 1876.  He moved there from New York and in 1876 moved to Iowa.  My Grandfather (Silas Eugene Wanamaker) was born at Beaver Dam in 1863.  I have found them on the 1860 Federal Census in Wisconsin and the 1880 Federal Census in Iowa, but nothing in the 1870 Federal Census.  That is why I am asking if there was a State Census during this time period, that they might show up on.   My question, is there a person that can research this for me?   Would the LDS church have micro film for this period?   Thank You for your time.

Subject: Walker family

My GGgrandfather, John Perrigo Walker (b. Vermont, 1812) lived in Waterloo,

WI, during the 1840s, and according to my family records, all four of his

children were born there, before the family moved to Iowa and subsequently to

California. His wife was Fanny Lucas, b. CT or VT, 1812.  I don't find

Waterloo listed in the 1840 census under Jefferson County, and wonder if it

was in a different county at that time.

Are there any local sources that might have information about the family,

such as birth of children, land ownership, etc.?  The Walkers moved around

quite a lot, and it would be good to have some record of them in Waterloo, as

they seem to have spent about 10 years there.  John Walker led a wagon train

from St. Louis to Quincy, CA in 1862, and I have an account of the trip

written by his daughter Juliette (my great-grandmother) that I could send for

your library, if you are interested.

Thanks very much,

Subject: Ancestors

Hello,

I am looking for information about my ancestors.

I have been told that they were from Germany.

Last name was possibly ZEIDE  later changed to ZEE.

I was also told he was a stable boy for the KAISER in Germany.

They later moved to Albany WI where my great grandfather Charles was born on July 2, 1872.

Two of my Great Grandpas sisters lived in WATERLOO.

One was Mrs. Emma KYPKE, the other was Mary ZSEIDE.

That is the correct spelling of our last name before it was changed to ZEE.

My Great Grandfathers parents names were  Fred and Augusta ZSEIDE.

Also possibly from Waterloo area originally.

I would appreciate any information.  /  Thank You!

I am researching my great grandfather, James Bonaparte Farrington.  I have information indicating that he was a physician practicing in Jefferson, Wisconsin.  He graduated from medical college in 1862, and he served in the Wisconsin Regiment in the Civil War, so the time period would be sometime after 1864 or 1865.

I have contacted the Fort Atkinson Public Library, and they were not able to come up with any information, but they did suggest I contact your genealogical society.  If you have any information, it would be very much appreciated.  You can e-mail me at fricks@ameritech.net

I am researching the Peter Christian Henningson family that lived in Lake Mills from at least 1880 to 1888.  He is listed in the 1880 census for the Village of Lake Mills as Christian Henningson with his wife Anne and sons Louis and George.  I also have a copy of the birth certificate for Harry George Henningson on August 7, 1888 in Lake Mills whose parents are Peter C. Henningson and Anna (Rasmussen) Henningson.  Since the birth certificate only lists Louis as a sibling, George must have died before 1888.  I believe they moved to SD in 1900, but so far I have not found them in either in 1900 census for SD or WI.

Just recently, I found a silver spoon that has an engraved bowl with the words "North End Rock Lake, Lake Mills, Wis" and also engraved is a lake shoreline and pine trees.  Can you tell me any history of commemorative spoons for Lake Mills?

August STOEBE and his wife, Fredericka or Sophine, emigrated to Lowell, Dodge County, Wisconsin in about 1852-1855 from Prussia. They lived, and I believe farmed there until about 1880, when they moved to Traverse County, Minnesota.

They had 8 or 9 children born during the time in Lowell. The mother, Fredericka died while they lived there, after Feb 1878 and possibly also one daughter.

I have found them on the 1870 census but have not been able to find them on the 1860. Any information that anyone has on this family, or can direct me to places to look for information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for gracious help.

Sincerely,

Barbara Allison  / brjall@myexcel.com

Subject: my family history

I have been researching my Duffy ancestors.  Our scanty written family history tells us that Martin Duffy left County Roscommon in Ireland and arrived in Watertown Wisconsin in 1846.  He married Anna McDaunaugh, we don't know if this occured in Ireland or Wisconsin.  Henry Duffy was born in 1851, we assume in or near Watertown.  Martin supposedly began a company making wagons that was called Duffy Wagon Co.

Henry Duffy and Anna Sloan wed on December 27, 1875 this record was from the Jefferson County Gazette.  Anna was the daughter of Patrick Sloan and Anna Killoy Sloan.

Some time after the family moved to Riceville Iowa where my grandfather Charles was born about 1888.

In your index you list a Widow Duffy who ran a grocery at Main & Third (southwest corner) but no time period is listed.

Is there any way I can find out more about the Duffys, McDaunaughs (we assume this probably became Donahue) or the Sloans?

thanks for your help  /  Richard Duffy  /  Houston, Texas

Thank you, Linda

I am researching my family history and am hoping to locate my GGGrandfather's family in Dodge/Jefferson county.  My research indicates that at least three children were born here during the period of 1848 to 1860.  The 1850 census has not shown them as living in Jefferson county.  Do you feel that you may be of some help on this problem?

Thank You for your assistance

Subject: Query for Porter

I am looking for information on Albert Porter and his ancestors. In the 1900 census of Lake Mills, Jefferson County, Wisconsin, Albert was listed as:

Albert Porter b. Jan. 1842 or 43 in Maine (head of household)

Jennie K. (Keyes) b. Aug. 1847 in Wisconsin (wife)

Grace M. b. March 1878 in Illinois (dtr)

Julius C. b. Nov. 1883 in Illinois (son)

Marcia S. b. Dec. 1887 in Wisconsin (dtr)

I am showing Albert's parents were born in ME and he married Jennie A. Keyes in or around 1872. I believe Albert's middle name was Henry, but not sure. I have no info on his parents.

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks much,    Melissa Bowersock

Subject: FOX Query

Hello,

I'm researching my great-grandfather, Charles William FOX, and great-great-grandmother, Sarah FOX who came to America in 1861 and settled in or near Jefferson with Sarah's brother.  I believe his name was Samuel FOX.  Sarah was born on October 29, 1820 and Charles was born in England on May 5, 1851.  They were enroute to America in May, 1861.  Once here, Sarah married Richard Hawk.  Sarah died on Nov. 9, 1879 and is buried in North Oakland Cemetery.  I have information about Charles as an adult but am really interested in learning about Sarah's life and any information available about their immigration to America and their life in England.

Thanks very much!   /   Nancy Richardson

Subject: Passehl family inquiry

PASSEHL, JOHN (born in Germany March 34, 1847).  He came to the U.S. in 1864 and at once enlisted in the Union army, where he served for six months.   He left Watertown, Wisc between 1874 – 1878 for Wright County, MN with his wife (Henriette Wilhelmine Venner).  He was a Civil War Veteran of Company B, 23rd Wisconsin Voluntary Infantry (perhaps with his father).

Does the Dodge/Jefferson County Historical Society have an 1870 census record of this family available? Military records? Is a marriage certificate available (married December 12, 1869 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Farmington, Wisconsin)?

Looking for any information on the Passehls. or for anyone else who may be researching this family.

Thank you.   /   Terry L. Sandquist   /   Hutchinson, MN  55350
