I'm looking for information on my gg grandparents. James Washburn married Catherine Davis in Portland Township, Dodge County in 1857. James had been in Portland Township since the 1840's. Catherine's death certificate lists her parents as David and Mary Davis, all born in Wales. Is there any chance of finding a marriage record for James and Catherine? Anything additional on David and Mary Davis? Where there specific units formed from Dodge County for the Union army in the Civil War? Catherine reputedly had two brothers that fought for Wisconsin units in the War. The only clue I have is a Wabasha County, Minnesota that says Catherine transferred her church membership from the Waterloo, Wisconsin Congregational Church in 1859. Thanks for your help.

Lomira, Dodge, WI, 1850s: CALHOUN and SIMMONS families

Henry S. CALHOUN was born 29 JAN 1912 in Frankfort, Herkimer, NY, the son of Sheldon CALHOUN and Sally Ann BACON. According to the 1853 will of an Aunt, Henry resided in Lomira, Dodge, WI in the mid-nineteenth century.

The 1850 census for Lomira verifies this and lists Henry, his wife Mary, born in NY, and 4 children: Jerome, Julia E., Sheldon and Charles.

QUESTION: Did Henry, Mary and their two youngest children Sheldon and Charles die in Lomira during the 1850s, and were they buried there? The 1860 census shows the two adolescent Calhouns (Julia and John) boarding with other families. Around 1870 Julia E. Calhoun married John H. SIMMONS and removed to S. Byron, Fond du Lac, WI and had one son, Stephen, who may have died c. 1904. Julia still lived in S. Byron as late as 1915.

Our 1956 Calhoun family genealogy never mentions the two youngest children, and says only that Henry's son moved to Juneau Alaska and had 1 son and 3 daughters. This closely matches the migrations of a John J. Calhoun who left S. Byron, Fond du Lac, WI in 1888 for Juneau. I suspect John J. CALHOUN and Jerome CALHOUN were the same person.

Other than the 1850 census, did this CALHOUN family leave any trail in Dodge county Wisconsin? Many thanks.
