I sent you an email a few days ago requesting any assistance on locating my Lubke family who lived in Iron Ridge approximately 1872 to 1879. I noticed that you have passenger lists and would be interested in whether those lists could be researched also. I believe they arrived from Germany in 1872, but I do not have any information on port of departure or entry. I have also seen their surname spelled Luebke. Their names are Emilie Lubke and August Frederick William Lubke. Thank you for your help!

I am researching the lives of Gottlieb SCHMIDT and Augusta SEIDLER/SEIDER/ZEIDLER. Gottlieb came to Hebron/Ft. Atkinson, Jefferson County, in 1883 from Wesching (Wreschen/Wrzesnia, I think), Posen Province, Germany. Augusta followed in 1886 from Schanikon, Posen Province, Germany. They were married in Ft. Atkinson at the Evangelical Lutheran church, December 11, 1886, by pastor J. Haase. Their only child, Hattie, was born May 28, 1887. I found the family in Hebron, Jefferson County, in the 1900 federal census (T623, 1792). Hattie married August SCHROEDER (born April 13, 1884 in Morrison, WI, died July 1944 in Ft. Atkinson). Hattie died June 4, 1965, in Ft. Atkinson.

I have several queries: 1. I am trying to find the death dates and burial sites of Gottlieb and Augusta SCHMIDT (see above). One questionable record says they are buried in Lake View cemetery, Ft. Atkinson. Gottlieb probably died around 1940 in Ft. Atkinson. Augusta probably died around 1946-47 in Ft. Atkinson. 2. What were popular newspapers in Jefferson County between 1883 and 1940? Were there any newspapers popular specifically to German immigrants? 3. Are there any county or township histories which contain information on the families listed above? 4. Are there any compiled family histories on the families listed above? 5. Can you suggest names and contact information of any residents who might be interested in corresponding with me concerning the families listed above? 6. Are there church records available for the families listed above? I believe they all attended the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ft. Atkinson, Jefferson County.

I am sending my membership form and dues in the mail today!

Thank you so much for your time and let me know of any costs that may accrue with this research.

Looking for a PULVER family who lived in the Town of Jefferson in the 1870's. All I have to go on are several hard-to-read census records. I believe the father's name is John W. Pulver and the mother is Margaret (maiden name Warfield). The children are Mary Josephine, Cassius, Caroline, Emmett Warfield, William Oliver, David H. and Blanche. They came from New York, possibly Ontario County. Would like to make contact with any descendants of this family. There appear to be many other PULVERS in the County at this time. Searching for any information on the HROBSKY family. Julia HROBSKY married Alexander HAMILTON Sr. on March 14, 1887 in Watertown. They moved to South Dakota, where she died soon after her daughter was born. Alexander moved back, and married Julia's sister, Louisa HROBSKY on January 3, 1891. They had many children. Alexander was also good friends with the sisters' brother Will HROBSKY, who moved to Rock County and bought a farm next to my G-G Grandfather's. John and William appear in the 1870 census, but the others left Jefferson Cty. around 1850 because of an epidemic. Need information on Joseph BEAULIEU b.1820 d.1883,married Adeline BLAIR b.22 April 1832 d.29 May 1902.

Following is believed to be from a Watertown newspaper obit:

(Taken from newspaper obit) Jos. Beaulieu, an old and respected citizen of Watertown, died last Friday night at the age of 63 years, of injuries received in falling from the scaffolding of M. Norton's house in the 4th ward. Mr. Beaulieu was a native of Three Rivers, Canada, and came to this city in 1837, residing here for a short period, leaving for California during the time of the gold excitement, residing there for about ten years, and then returning to this city where he has resided ever since. His wife and five sons survive him. And thus is ended the well rounded life of another well known pioneer, who will long be remembered for his kind words and his goodness of heart. His funeral took place on Monday forenoon from St. Bernard's Church, where a large concourse of sympathising friends and neighbors assembled to pay their last tribute of respect. In the death of Mr. Beaulieu, his family loses a kind and affectionate husband and father, and Watertown a most worthy citizen.

Thanks!

I am looking for informaton on my great grandmother, Margaretha (Martha Margaret)Myers/Mayer. She was married in Concord, WI in March 1861. Her parents were listed as Nelson and Leonora Meyer. Family history says that Margaretha was brought to this county in 1844 by her mother. Margaretha might have had a sister. I know that Margaretha left Concord after marrying in 1861, but I was wondering if there is a cemetery near Concord where her parents might be buried. Any information on Margaretha or her parents will be greatly appreciated. Any hints on where I could go to learn more about this family will be greatly appreciated. Any information or hints of any kind will be greatly appreciated! I am at a brick wall and can't get through it.

Hi, I am researching information relating to the Second Wisconsin Cavalry Regiment. I have a roster of a number of members of the regimetn that were recruited in the Dodge and Jefferson County areas. What I am looking for are copies of letters, diaries or journals that might be available from men who served with this regiment. I am gathering information to write a regimental history.

I am also looking for the location of the Beaver Dam Argus that was published during the CW. Since most small town newspapers didn't have the luxury of hiring news reporters they often published letters from the front from local boys. I have found a couple of other newspapers throughout the state so far, and they have been a "goldmine".

Please drop me an e-mail if you have any information that might be of value. Thanks!

VALLEAU, Moses D. and Henry Cornelius VALLEAU. The list for the German Methodist Cemetery included these names. I found the family plot on the Cemetery Map. Do you have any information for this family? Moses D. Valleau married Harriet Newell Linderman, sister of Stephen Linderman. Henry Cornelius Valleau is their son. The two cemetery plots are next to each other.

HURD, M/M I saw that name on the same map. Do you have any information on this family? The Hurd family is part of the Harris family line.

The information that was sent previously, re: Stephen Linderman was quite wonderful and I really appreciate your help. My whole family thanks you!

My Grandfather Robert RUHLAND, born in Leroy, and lived in Lomira, and Beaver Dam. Searching for anything on this family. He owned several creameries with a partner, Charles PRICE of Oakfield. They owned creameries in Oakfield, Lomira, Rio. Brother Michael RUHLAND had one in Palmyra and another brother Frank RULAND ran one in Oshgosh. My father was a cheesemaker and my brothers and I were also cheesemakers up intil 12 years ago in Illinois. What info is available on the cheese factories in WI. This would have been in the earliy 1900's. Thanks

My brother recently bought a copy of Wright's 1895 Watertown Directory. Unfortunately it was missing pages 151 and 152, which, according to the index, is an ad for Molzahn and Feisst Liquor Store. Simon Molzahn was my great-grandfather. I am wondering if the Society has a copy of the book and, if so, if someone could either scan these two pages or get xeroxes for me. I am a member of the D/JCGS. Thank you.

I have a picture of my great-great grandfather with my father taken probably in 1940 in Clyman Wisconsin. My "grandfather's" name was Frank Klatt. There was a picture of the house and I am just interested in possibly locating the house or at least knowing where my "grandfather" lived. (I'm not even sure the house is Frank Klatt's.)I don't know if anyone from this family is still alive. Frank Klatt's daughter would have been Eleanore Klatt (Melendy). We saw a grave in the Zion Cemetary for Anna (1864-1933) and Frank (1862-1953) Klatt. I am just curious about this. It is actually unusual for me to be looking for family roots down here because I am from North of Green Bay and my grandparents travelled mostly over the East before settling down in Marinette. sorry for babbling so much. If you could have any possible information such as a plat map or a possible homestead for Frank Klatt around 1940 I'd love to hear from you. Thank you so much.

George L. RAYNER or RAYNOR, Born 1 Apr 1818 Sutton Valence, Kent, England, came to America in 1840 at about 22 yrs. of age. Who were his parents, siblings? He settled in New York and married Laura Levina PICKETT prob. in Williamson, Wayne, NY in 1842. In 1844 they moved to Coldwater, Branch Co., Michigan. In 1848 they moved to Neosho or Rubicon, Dodge, WI where they cleared land for a farm where they lived for 33 years. In 1882 they moved to Tomah or La Grange, Monroe Co., WI where their youngest son, Lester lived. It is here they were living when George passed away 26 Feb 1890 leaving a wife and 2 sons and 3 daughters. He was active in the Baptist Church for 25 years, but not having one near walked as a Methodist for 14 years, until he came to Tomah. His funeral was held at the Baptist Church. His wife, Laura Levinia PICKETT was born in 27 Dec 1823 in Williamson, Wayne, NY to John PICKETT and Levinia STRAIGHT. She died in Monroe County, WI 3 Sep 1904 and is buried by her husband in Oak Grove Cemetery, Tomah, Monroe Co., WI. George and Laura RAYNER had children: Eliza J.(Md. aft. 1893 Nelson CALKINS & ___PEARL date and place unknown) B. 9 Dec 1843 Williamson, Wayne, NY, Zeruah Annette (Md. 23 Feb 1864 Mauston, Juneau, WI Charles Adam ALTON) B. 14 Jun 1846 Coldwater, Branch, Michigan D. 1 Jul 1926 Bemidji, Beltrami, MN (my direct line); Zerah Ezra (Md. 20 Jun 1872 Neosho, Dodge, WI Rebecca Lavina VESTAL)and lived in Soldier's Grove Crawford Co., WI B. 15 Dec 1851 Rubicon, Dodge, WI D. Unknown; Lester G. RAYNER B. 24 Sep 1854 Rubicon, Dodge, WI (Md. Ida A. RICKERD 12 Jun 1881 Neosho, Dodge, WI & Md. Mrs. Lauretta LAWSON 4 Nov 1911, place unknown)D. 14 May 1913 Minneapolis, Hennepin, MN and buried Oak Grove Cemetery, Monroe Co., WI; Ophelia RAYNER B. abt. 1862 Rubicon, Dodge, WI (Md. Fred CRAIG 28 May 1885 Monroe Co, WI)D. place and date unknown. She was in Minneapolis, MN in 1904 and Longville, Cass Co., MN in 1913. I found this family in the 1850, 1860, 1870 Censuses in Rubicon. I would like to find them in 1880 Census there too. Can someone find them there? They're not listed in the Index, probably because they had no children under age 10. They are in the 1900 census which states Laura had 7 children. I only have names of 5. Who were the other 2 children? Could they be listed in cemetery records or church records in Rubicon, Dodge Co.? They may have died as infants between census years. What is the birth date of child #5, Ophelia? Where and when did she die? I have a lot of information on Eliza and her first husband and their children, Zeruah and her family, some on Zerah (when and where did he die?), and obituaries on Lester and his wife. I have cemetery records and birth, marriage records and obituaries for many of these Rayners. I would really like to find out who George's parents are. I would like to find him in a ship's list entering the country and on a naturalization paper. I have looked for those records and can't find them. I have a lot on his wife, Laura's, parents and siblings. I'm happy to share all I have. Would you like me to send copies of family group sheets to your genealogical society?

Looking for information on Reubin Julian BUSS and his wife Mabel Clara(Barton)BUSS. Reubin went to college at Northwestern Illinois University in Chicago and then moved to Watertown, Wisc. I believe Reubin and Mabel met at college and married around 1911 or 1912. Their son, Leroy Barton BUSS was born in Reeseville, WI, Feb 1, 1913. Reubin was a dentist and died in Watertown 8/8/1933. Mabel was a nurse and died in Milwaukee 7/1/1939. Mabel is buried in the Oak Hill Cemetery (I assume next to Reubin.) I am interested in obtaining obituaries, cemetery records, or any other information that might be available. Thanks in advance! Paula, Ft. Myers, FL

Last week, I was able to visit the German Methodist Cemetery in Portland Township, Dodge County in which are interred WOODWARD, ELLIS AND WARD ancestors. Now I'm interested in finding whether or not there were two men named Hiram J. Ellis in Portland Township from about 1855 to 1863. My family records, a transcription of the German Methodist cemetery records, and a tombstone at the cemetery record the death of Hiram J. Ellis on Oct 26, 1862. However, the Wisconsin Military Archives show Hiram J. Ellis of Portland Township enlisting Co B, 16th Regt Inf Oct 24, 1861 and mustered out Co A, Dec 23, 1864. So I need to resolve the existence of the two records or two men and find the ancestry of the Hiram who was not the son of Oliver and Sarah ELLIS.

The Hiram in my ancestry (d. Oct 26, 1862) was the younger brother of Ezra Ellis who had earlier enlisted in Co B of the 16th Regt Inf and who later (1880) lived in Waterloo, Jefferson County. They were two of the children of Oliver and Sarah ELLIS who had accompanied Ezra and Polly WOODWARD from New York to Dodge County about 1855 (Sarah daughter of Ezra & Polly).

A second item of interest is any record of the marriage of Friend Woodward ELLIS and Mary Etta WARD. It should be noted that Ezra Woodward's son, Minor, married Mary C. or Nancy C. WARD. Minor WOODWARD and his wife are also interred in the German Methodist Cemetery in Portland Township as are other WARD family members.

Thank you.

I am looking for information on my GGG grandfather and his family. Frederick KEINER was born in 1822 in Germany, the son of Johann Henry and Philipine (Loell) KEINER. Frederick married Mary Fedelia SCHNEPF on September 29, 1853 in Watertown, Wisconsin. Fred and Mary had 6 children born in Jefferson County (Watertown, Lake Mills, Milford).

Fred died in 1888 (after marrying another after the death of Mary in 1871) and is buried at Aztalan. I have also been told that Fred's parents are buried there too. Fred had a brother and sister that also lived in Lake Mills; Conrad (1830-1914) and Johanetta (1843-1933).

I would like to find anything pertaining to the Keiner name in Jefferson County. I would also be interested in Mary Schnepf's family which I have no info on. All the info I have to connect the Keiner family to Wisconsin was found on the LDS family search website, and I have not found anyone else to confirm information with.

I appreciate your time and help with this. Thank you.

I have a “ Notification of Marriage” from the Parish of St. John the Baptist, Jefferson WI. showing that my great grandparents, Aloysius BEISCHEL and Emiliae DURMANN were married on 7 January 1868. The Beischel side of the family all fits together. The Durmann side, however, is a bit more complicated. The above document shows her parents as Carl DURMANN and Mary BADE. Another document issued by the Office of the Register of Deeds, Jefferson County indicates the daughter’s name as Emilie DURMAN and the father’s Charles DURMAN. Her tombstone shows her given names as Amelia Caroline, her husband’s obituary gives her maiden name as THORMAN and her own obituary shows it as THORMENN. Any information on any of these people will be appreciated.
