Concord Township, Jt. District no. 6, Pioneer School.  An article of agreement to build the Pioneer School was drawn up on the 16th day of March, 1861.  The building was to be built of bricks, was to be 24 x 30 ft.  The schoolhouse was built in the summer of 1861 by Mr. Ransom.  It wasn't until 1865 that the outbuildings were built.  School was held in the new building starting January 1, and continued for three months.  This was called the winter school.  The teacher was Elizabeth Terry.  She received a salary of $15.00 per month.  A summer was also held from June to August.  The teacher for that term was Mariette Robinson.  She received $12.00 per month.  There were more than 90 children in the school district at this time.
